Do you have a career in delivering formal training sessions in a structured environment? Do you provide on-the-job instruction to employees in a workplace environment? Is it your job to conduct workplace assessments and skill audits, and coach and mentor staff? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then it’s time for you to consider upgrading your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. TAE40116 qualification is now required to be a certified trainer and assessor.
TAE40116 is a course designed to meet the development needs of trainers and assessors in the vocational and training sector. As many in the training and assessment field know, TAE40116 has replaced TAE40110. So to remain as qualified, trainers and assessors must upgrade their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to TAE40116.
What’s the Difference?
TAE40116 has a significantly heavier workload than the TAE40110. While the latter required the completion of 7 Core Units and at least 3 Elective Units, TAE40116 involves accomplishing 9 Core Units and at least 1 Elective Unit.
The two new core units are under TAE40116 qualifications are:
- TAEASS502 titled “Design and Develop Assessment Tools”
- TAELLN411titled “Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills”
- In addition to those above, two other units in TAE40116 have changed:
- TAEASS401B titled “Plan Assessment Activities and Processes” is replaced by TAEASS401
- TAEASS403B titled “Participate in Assessment Validation” is replaced by TAEASS403
The two new units have increased assessment requirements, and so they are not equivalent to those they have superseded.
Moreover, there is also a new TAE40116 qualification for participants who wish to take the course. New entry participants in Certificate IV in Training and Assessment must have vocational competency in the field they want to teach and assess in. This means that they should have experience and broad knowledge in their chosen industry.
Upgrading from TAE40110 to TAE40116
Since 2017, TAE40110 certificate holders can update their training and assessment credential to TAE40116. This is to ensure that vocational teachers have the appropriate skills to design and develop assessment tools in their respective field.
With that said, trainers and assessors who previously took TAE40110 only need to take the two new core units (TAEASS502 “Design and Develop Assessment Tools” and TAELLN411 “Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills”) to meet the TAE40116 qualification.
Some participants may have already obtained one or both of the new core units (TAEASS502 and TAELLN411) as electives under TAE40110 or while taking a related Diploma program. In this case, they only need to receive a credit transfer for the said unit to upgrade to TAE40116.
If a participant already has both the new core units, they only need to take the TAEASS401 and TAEASS403 units or provide evidence that they have completed both.
